How did your creative journey start?

My creative journey started way back when I was tiny and used to watch my mum paint at her easel in the kitchen. I remember playing with the (closed!) tubes of oil paint. Art was the only subject I truly enjoyed at school, then I went on to art school afterwards. After graduating, life kind of got in the way a bit, as it tends to, but now I’m back doing what I love: being creative.

Can you explain your creative process? How has it changed over time?

I wouldn’t say I have a process as such at the moment. I tend to start a few projects at once and jump between them. Generally, though, I’ll sketch out my subject matter/design on paper, then transfer to lino and start carving. 

Who influences you? Which other creatives’ work do you love?

I am inspired by folk art designs, quirky handmade and vintage things, and love pattern. Indian block print design is a big influence too. Objects I’ve collected over the years are often my starting points in a print design.   

What advice would you give creatives who are just starting out?

Just keep creating, don’t be put off by things not looking the way you want them to straight away, it takes time and practice. Enjoy the process and don’t put too much pressure on yourself!

What can visitors expect when visiting your space during Falkirk Open Studios?

I will have framed and unframed linocuts, little lanterns and cards of my folk- and nature-inspired designs.
