How did Studio 164 start?

Studio 164 was founded in 2025 by Falkirk-based visual artist and craftsperson Rhona Duffy. With a passion for traditional arts and crafts, particularly mosaic and glasswork, Rhona enjoys teaching and sharing her skills, and she wanted to create a space in Falkirk to be able to do this. So Studio 164 was born!

Can you explain what Studio 164 is all about?

Studio 164 is a creative space where people can try new skills, join workshops and meet others who enjoy art and craft. We offer a range of classes, exhibitions and events, and we love to bring people together through creativity. While Rhona manages and leads promotion of the studio’s core programme of activities, the space is also available to hire when not in use.

Who inspires you?

We’re inspired by the artists, makers and tutors who use the studio, and by everyone who comes along to learn something new. Seeing people grow in confidence and enjoy being creative is what we enjoy most.

What advice would you give someone who wants to get creative?

Just give it a go. You don’t need any experience to get started. Try something that interests you, enjoy the process and don’t worry about getting everything perfect. Students often tell us how they find the activities therapeutic and enjoyable – especially if you manage to get into that lovely flow state while creating!

Visitors can explore the studio, join one of Rhona’s Roman Mosaic Coaster Craft Cafes (pre-booking essential), view an exhibition of work by the participants of Open Studios Falkirk, buy Rhona’s work, and view demonstrations of mosaic work by Rhona.
