About Joanne Boyle

Joanne Boyle is a visual artist, printmaker and photographer based in the Forth Valley, Scotland. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication, Joanne’s practice moves between photography, lino and relief printing, illustration and surface pattern design.

Inspired by a lifelong connection to the countryside, animals and the natural world, Joanne explores the character, textures and details she encounters around her. Photography often provides the starting point for her work, with images developing into drawings, lino prints or surface patterns.

Her printmaking and surface design bring a bit of the outdoors in, transforming inspiration from nature into hand-pulled lino prints, textiles and homeware, including cushions, tea towels and bags. She enjoys the physical process of carving and hand-printing.

Her different disciplines continually inform one another, allowing her to explore the same themes of nature, observation, colour and form in varied ways.

For Falkirk Open Studios, Joanne is bringing together a selection of original hand-pulled lino and relief prints alongside her photographic and surface pattern work, offering visitors an insight into the varied ways she responds creatively to the world around her.
